Zambia is a state in the centre of Africa, without access to the sea, most of its territory is located on a plateau. The coffee industry in the country is very young, it was introduced after 1950’s. Now coffee from Zambia, with its small volumes, starts to be appreciated by experts because it differs in its varieties. Coffee cultivation was an effort diversify exports: yield and production efficiencies are the key points. It wasn’t easy to develop coffee market, in fact Zambia did not formally export coffee until 1985. Over the last decade, however, there has been a shift to quality driven production and supporting smallholder farms.
Ben Zukas and his family have been committed to growing arabica coffee beans for three generations. Their farm, located at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, produces cherries with juicy acidity and a dense body.
