The name Wolisho has beeen given to a coffee variety in Gedeo, because it resembles an indigenous non-coffee tree called Wolisho. The coffee tree and the native non-coffee tree have in common large fruit size and the inconsistent yield year after year. In addition to these characteristics, morphologically Wolisho in known for its tall open canopy and the new leaf growth that is often bronze in color.
